| In his first known activity as a mercenary, calling himself Frag, was to storm the castle of the criminal geneticist Arnim Zola, only to be repulsed by Zola's servant, Doughboy. Impressed by Frag's ferocity, the Red Skull, Nazi criminal and associate of Zola, spared his life and imprisoned him. Even under torture, Frag refused to talk to the Skull, and even challenged him to a man-to-man fight. The Red Skull agreed, in part to test his new body, which was cloned from his hated enemy, the hero Captain America. Even though the Red Skull defeated Frag, he offered him a position of bodyguard, calling him Crossbones. | ||||
