The villain commonly referred to, as the Dark Beast is an extra-dimensional counterpart of the heroic mutant and member of the X-Men, Henry McCoy, a.k.a. the Beast. In his native timeline, the villain Apocalypse had succeeded in conquering much of the world and turned it into a nightmarish, post-apocalyptic world ruled by mutants. One of Apocalypse's sub-rulers, Mister Sinister, gave McCoy the post of head geneticist and the position of overseeing his massive slave pens. McCoy excelled in the position, experimenting on humans and mutants alike, creating the powerful Infinites as an army for Apocalypse, and heightening his own mutant abilities. |
At one point, Sinister was killed by his prelate, Cyclops, who led a revolt in the slave pens. McCoy fled to Apocalypse's main headquarters, only to discover that his timeline was about to be erased from existence from the threat of the powerful M'Krann Crystal. Leaping into the Crystal, McCoy survived the destruction of his timeline and found himself in the recent past of the mainstream Earth. McCoy settled into New York City. He somehow discovered the Mister Sinister of this timeline and has gone to great lengths to keep himself from being noticed by him. |
