Origins:

Loki is the son of Laufey, king of the frost giants of Jotunheim, one of the "Nine Worlds" of the Asgardian cosmology. Laufey was slain when Odin, ruler of Asgard, led his subjects into battle against the giants. Surveying the spoils of war, the Asgardians discovered a small god-size baby hidden in their defeated adversaries' main fortress. The infant was Loki, whom Laufey had kept hidden for shame over his son's diminutive size. Because Loki was the offspring of a fallen king, Odin elected to raise him alongside his bloodson: Thor, the future God of Thunder.
In childhood, Loki greatly resented the fact that Odin and the other Asgardians favoured the young Thor, who already evinced a nobility of spirit and excelled in all endeavours. As a boy, Loki began studying the mystic arts, for which he possessed a natural affinity. His hatred for Thor grew, and Loki vowed to become the most powerful god in Asgard and destroy his foster brother to achieve this end. Upon reaching adulthood, Loki began forming alliances with other enemies of Asgard.
When Loki's inborn propensity for disobedience began to manifest itself, he earned the nickname God of Mischief. But as his deeds grew increasingly malicious, and his lust for power and vengeance became apparent, he came to be known as the God of Evil. Loki has attempted many times through the centuries to destroy Thor and seize the throne of Asgard for himself.
